Locke, the Ashen Exorcist, is officially live on Patch 26.12. Here's his full kit, best build, and why he's already reshaping the mid lane meta.
Locke just dropped his official Champion Spotlight on June 9, and the mid lane will never look the same. 🔥 The Ashen Exorcist hits League of Legends with Patch 26.12: here's everything you need to know to dominate from day one.
Locke is League's 173rd champion, a melee AP burst assassin built for the mid lane. A demon hunter with ties to Vayne, he combines explosive burst damage, surprising mobility, and a terrifying execute ultimate. Unlike recent mid lane additions, Locke has a clear identity: mark your target, close the gap, and delete them before they can react.
His kit rewards preparation over brute force. You don't just run in: you set up your nails, activate your mobility, and chain the execution. This makes him a high-skill-ceiling champion that'll punish sloppy play from both sides.

Riot Games
Passive: Silver Stake: Locke's attacks deal bonus magic damage on-hit, scaling with the target's missing health. This makes him devastating in burst combos, the lower your enemy gets, the more his passive punishes them.
Q: Ritual Nails: Throws soul nails forward, dealing magic damage and marking enemies hit. Stacks accumulate on marked targets; consuming stacks via basic attacks or E deals bonus damage per stack. Unused stacks refund mana and cooldown. Great for poking safely in lane.
W: Soul Ignition: Grants decaying movement speed, but at a cost: Locke takes percent-health true damage per second while active. The upside: he heals back a portion of all damage taken, plus a bonus based on missing health. Use W to chase or close gaps, don't leave it running in open teamfights.
E: Ashen Pursuit: Locke blinks to a nearby location, dealing magic damage around him. His next attack then dashes to his target, dealing magic damage to all enemies in his path while consuming Soul Nails. 🎯 Key rule: E cooldown resets on takedown: this is how Locke chains kills and escapes messy teamfights.
R: Purgatory: Locke kicks a binding artifact to a location that opens on arrival, shooting chained soul nails in an AoE. Marked champions brought below a health threshold are pulled inside and executed. If a champion is executed, the duration resets on other affected enemies, turning a clean kill into a potential teamfight wipe. Picking up the artifact permanently increases the execution threshold and refunds a portion of the cooldown per champion sealed.
Locke's gameplay loop is "mark, engage, execute," and mastering the timing of these three steps is the difference between a 1v5 outplay and an embarrassing death.
Early laning: Use Q to poke and stack marks in lane. Avoid trading without nails stacked: your damage is significantly lower without them. Shove waves with Q and look for kill opportunities when marks are up and the enemy is under 70% health.
All-in combo: Q to mark, E to blink in and proc nails, W to chase if they Flash, R to execute. Always confirm your target has Soul Nail stacks before committing: going in naked is how you int.
Teamfights: Don't ult into a 5v5 unless you're confident one target is below the execution threshold. Locke works best peeling off the backline or finding picks on out-of-position carries. His R chain potential turns a single pick into a snowballing execution sequence. 📈
Counter-play to note: Locke is melee, which means he struggles into CC-heavy comps like Nautilus/Galio/Leona. If the enemy team stacks hard engage, reconsider: you'll get locked down before your combo fires.
Locke brings something the mid lane hasn't had in a while: a melee AP assassin who punishes passive, defensive play. Current Patch 26.12 mid meta favors ranged mages (check our Patch 26.12 breakdown for full tier list context), so Locke slots in as a high-risk, high-reward alternative.
He's naturally strong against immobile carries and squishy supports, but struggles against poke-heavy lanes like Zoe or Viktor that keep him at range. Against those matchups, grab early Hexdrinker or play for roams instead of winning lane. His passive's missing-health scaling makes him a nightmare in skirmishes once he's 2-3 items in.
