Patch 26.12 is live and Riot went harder than the preview suggested. AP Xin Zhao mid, Orianna nerfs confirmed, and ARAM becomes a completely different game.
LoL Patch 26.12 is live as of June 10 and Riot delivered more than the preview hinted. AP Xin Zhao mid gets an explicit nerf, Orianna's damage is confirmed and cut hard, and ARAM just became a completely different game with a full augment overhaul. Here's everything that changes for your solo queue climb.
Riot explicitly flagged AP Xin Zhao mid lane as "far too strong" in the patch notes. These changes hit his healing and ability economy directly:
Less sustain combined with higher mana costs should price AP Xin Zhao out of the mid lane. Standard AD Xin Zhao jungle is untouched.
The preview hinted at Orianna nerfs. Patch 26.12 delivers them with full numbers:
Base HP also drops from 585 to 565. Lower burst damage and less HP make her more punishable in lane. The slightly higher ult AP ratio doesn't offset the base damage loss at most elo ranges.
Lee Sin loses AD scaling and Q damage, making early skirmishes slightly less brutal:
He's still viable, but the gap between a mechanically skilled Lee and an average one increases. Expect his presence in the LoL Playoffs meta to shift slightly.
Nocturne's Q damage falls off at later ranks:
Not a massive nerf, but it weakens his late-game damage in extended jungle fights. His early gank pressure remains intact.

Riot Games
Jax 💪 gets cheaper Q mana costs (65 → 50) and more E damage on tanks (3.5/7% → 4/8% max HP). He was already strong and this makes him oppressive in extended split-push fights. Track real-time win rates at /meta/lol.
Aatrox gets a small Q sweet spot bonus damage increase (70 → 75). It reinforces his position as the dominant top lane carry pick heading into the MSI patch window.
Gwen sees meaningful buffs to both Q and E. Snip damage increases at all ranks and E provides bonus attack speed earlier. Expect her to climb tier lists fast this patch.
Sylas gets a notable Q damage increase (40/60/80/100/120 → 40/65/90/115/140) with a better AP ratio. After sitting at tier 2 for several patches, mid lane Sylas becomes a real threat again.
Syndra recovers some power: 20 base HP and higher Q base damage (+5-10) plus improved AP ratio. After several consecutive nerfs, she returns to the viable mid-lane pool. Looking for more mid lane options? The Locke guide covers how to play AP assassins mid in the current meta.
This is the biggest ARAM update in seasons. Riot removed the entire Trait system and replaced it with a new Augment framework.
What's gone: all Trait-based augments, removed entirely.
What's new:
ARAM now rewards knowing your augment path from champion select. Coordination around specific ability upgrades matters more than it ever did with Traits. Expect the Howling Abyss to feel completely different until the meta settles.
Teleport's shield swaps from sustained protection to burst protection:
This punishes passive post-teleport play and encourages immediate action. Split-push strategies that relied on the long shield window lose that safety net.
Nerfs to Orianna, Lee Sin, Nocturne, and AP Xin Zhao open significant space in mid and jungle. The dominant pre-patch picks get punished while Jax, Aatrox, and Gwen buff beneficiaries look set to take over top lane for the foreseeable future.
Sylas as a mid pick and Gwen top are the two strongest climbing options right now. Check the full tier list on /meta/lol and jump into a LoL ladder on Amber.gg to test the new patch at your rank.
