MSI 2026's bracket stage just delivered one of the wildest opening rounds in tournament history. Four contenders have separated themselves from the pack heading into the semifinals, and the question is simple: can anyone slow down T1 and HLE? 🔥
T1 swept FURIA 3:0 through the lower bracket, Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) dismantled G2 Esports 3:0 in the upper bracket, and Bilibili Gaming outlasted T1 in a 3:2 thriller to reach the Upper Bracket Final. But the biggest story at MSI 2026 so far? Team Secret Whales, Vietnam's newest squad, eliminated LPL powerhouse Top Esports in a 3:1 upset that nobody had on their bingo card. 🎯

Hanwha Life Esports enter the Upper Bracket Final as the most dominant team in the bracket stage. Zeka (mid), Zeus (top), and Kanavi (jungle) have dropped zero maps across two series, sweeping both Team Secret Whales and G2 Esports with clinical precision. Head coach Homme's roster looks like a machine that hasn't found its limits yet.
On the other side, Bilibili Gaming earned their spot the hard way. They survived an epic 3:2 war against T1 in Round 1, with ADC Viper and mid laner Knight stepping up in the clutch games, then swept LYON 3:0 to confirm they're the LPL's strongest representative here.
Zeka made headlines after the G2 series, saying "We're going to send you guys back to the lower bracket" before the match. Now he gets to prove it against BLG 📢. The winner takes the free path to the Grand Final. The loser enters the lower bracket and has to survive two more elimination matches.
T1 looked sharp in their 3:0 sweep of FURIA, Faker and Peyz playing controlled, patient LoL that shut down any Brazilian momentum before it could start. But the easy part is over.
First stop on July 8: G2 Esports, who dropped from the upper bracket after losing to HLE. G2 is not a team you take lightly, even after a 0:3 loss. The LEC first seed are motivated and capable of adapting mid-series.
If T1 get past G2, the path leads toward a potential rematch with BLG. Bilibili Gaming handed T1 their only loss of the bracket stage in that 3:2 thriller. Faker has clawed back from lower bracket runs before, including at Worlds, but every step from here is an elimination match 🔥.

Founded in December 2024 and undefeated in LCP Split 2, Team Secret Whales arrived at MSI 2026 as genuine unknowns. Their 3:1 victory over Top Esports, an LPL squad that was seeded to go deep, is already the biggest upset of the tournament. Jungler Hizto, the LCP Split 2 MVP, has been their engine: appearing seemingly out of nowhere in fights and completely off enemy radars in draft.
TSW now face LYON in Lower Bracket Round 2 on July 8. LYON dropped from the upper bracket after BLG swept them 3:0, and they'll be hungry for a bounce-back performance. For Secret Whales, a win here puts them one match from the Grand Final stage.
The Cinderella run continues, or it ends here. Either way, Vietnamese LoL is having its MSI 2026 moment 🌟.
Here's the scenario that has every LCK fan locked in: T1 clears G2, makes it through the bracket, and eventually meets BLG when everything is on the line. Depending on how the UB Final plays out, T1 and BLG could meet again as early as the Lower Bracket Final.
The original 3:2 between them was the best series of the bracket stage. Faker dominated games 1 and 3, but BLG's macro game was too clean in game 5 when it counted most. A rematch with a trip to the Grand Final on the line would be one for the history books.
