Challengermode vs Amber.gg: The Pick for Solo Players

Amber.gg • 4 min read •

Solo League of Legends or Valorant player chasing cash prizes against your own rank? Here is why Amber.gg fits you better than Challengermode.

The verdict: Challengermode vs Amber.gg comes down to how you play. If you play League of Legends or Valorant solo and want cash prizes against players at your own rank, on your own schedule, Amber.gg is built for you. Challengermode is built for organizers and teams: it is the software they run their brackets on.

👉 The easiest way to see it: start with a free ticket ladder and watch your own games get scored.

Why solo players pick Amber.gg 🔥

1. Your normal ranked games are the competition

  • Join a ladder, then play your usual games in the queue it names, such as Ranked Solo/Duo on League of Legends or Competitive on Valorant.
  • No team to build, no check-in, no lobby and no result to report: your scores come straight from the game data.
  • Play whenever you want inside the ladder's window, morning grind or late-night session.

2. You face your own rank, on your own role

  • Ladders can be limited to a rank range, so you are ranked against players near your level, not the whole platform.
  • Role ladders count only the roles they name. A game where you got autofilled does not use up one of your slots, so you can simply replay it.

3. Only your best games count

  • Ladders with a best-of rule count a set number of games and keep only your best scores. One rough game does not sink your run. 🎯
Example League of Legends ladder score in Ranked Solo/Duo: five games scored at plus 5 per kill, plus 3 per assist, minus 3 per death and plus 20 per win, where the best three games, worth 84, 80 and 58 points, make a ladder score of 222 points.

Includes Riot Games artwork.

4. Low-risk ways in

  • Free ticket ladders: tickets come from the free track of the monthly Battle Pass and get you into free ladders without spending a cent.
  • A $5 bonus on your first deposit of $20 or more.
  • Refunds when a ladder falls short: if a ladder starts without enough players, every entry is refunded. Leave before the start and you get your entry back too.

What Challengermode is, and where it stops for a solo player 🏗️

  • A B2B organizer tool. Challengermode AB, founded in 2014 in Stockholm, describes itself as a "competition management platform" and "a B2B live service with full whitelabel capability". Its customers are publishers, esports operators and brands, such as KRAFTON, Ubisoft, EA, BLAST and PGL.
  • Events exist only if an organizer runs them. Every event lives in an organizer's "Space". Challengermode can run ladders and queue-based tournaments too, but whether one exists for your game, region and rank depends on someone setting it up.
  • Team brackets at set times. In the usual flow, check-in opens 45 to 60 minutes before the start, every teammate has to confirm, and a team that does not ready up loses on walkover.
  • Solo means Free Agent. You get placed in a team only "just as the tournament is about to start", and not at all if too few Free Agents signed up.
  • Prizes set by each organizer. Entry fees and prize pools change from event to event, and Challengermode publishes no general prize figure.
  • Old help pages. Its help pages on the wallet and withdrawals show dates of 2 to 4 years ago, so check the current terms before you enter.
  • Sources: Challengermode's home page, organizers page and llms.txt file (updated 10 March 2026), and its help center, read on 6 November 2026.

Challengermode alternative: which one fits you? 🧭

  • You have a full team and want brackets on a fixed date, or you host events yourself: that is what Challengermode is made for.
  • You play solo, want your ranked games to count and want to face your own rank, on your own schedule: that is Amber.gg.
Side-by-side comparison of a team bracket, which needs a full team of five and plays matches at set times, and a solo ladder, where you play any time in the window and your best games make your score.
