VALORANT Champions Shanghai: four playoff spots locked
VALORANT Champions Shanghai already has four teams in the playoffs: Paper Rex, NRG, 100 Thieves and Team Vitality. Here is the bracket picture after the winners' matches, and what the elimination and decider rounds of 1 to 4 October will decide.
Four of the eight playoff spots at VALORANT Champions Shanghai are already locked, and the group stage still has four days to run. Paper Rex, NRG, 100 Thieves and Team Vitality all secured their berths on 29 and 30 September. The last four tickets come down to the elimination matches of 1 and 2 October and the group deciders of 3 and 4 October.
This is not a match-by-match recap. It is the shape of the bracket: who is through, what their wins say about the field, and what the next four days decide.
🎯 The four teams already through
Scorelines and player stats in this section come from THESPIKE's match reports.
Paper Rex got there first, on 29 September, with a reverse sweep of G2 Esports in the Group C winners' match. PRX dropped Split 9-13, then took Haven 13-11 and Lotus 13-9. Jinggg put up a 1.19 rating and 259 ACS, with d4v41 on 1.12 rating and 57 kills. It is Paper Rex's third Champions playoff qualification after 2023 and 2025, and the head-to-head against G2 now reads 6-2.
NRG followed from Group D on the same day, also from a map down. The defending world champions lost Ascent 7-13 to Karmine Corp, then took Summit 13-11 and Haven 13-9. Ethan led with a 1.08 rating and 33 assists. The title defence stays on schedule, and the upper bracket buys them a rest week before the main stage.
100 Thieves needed no comeback at all. In Group A they swept T1 2-0 in the opener, then swept FUT Esports 2-0 with 13-5 on Split and 13-10 on Lotus. Four maps played, four maps won. 🔒 The VCT Americas Stage 2 and EWC 2026 champions carry the cleanest group record of the four into the playoffs.
Team Vitality closed the set on 30 September in Group B. A 2-1 opener against Global Esports set up a winners' match against LOUD, which Vitality took 2-0: Ascent 13-7, then a 19-17 Summit that THESPIKE reports as matching the longest map in Champions history. Vitality are the first EMEA team qualified.

🔍 What those four berths say
The regional read is the interesting part. EMEA had a rough start to the group stage, and Vitality just flipped the story: the region finally has a team sitting in the upper bracket instead of scrapping in an elimination match.
The Americas are the only region with two teams already through, and they got there in opposite ways. 100 Thieves never dropped a map. NRG twice came back from a map down. Both routes land in the same place.
Three regions are represented in those four berths: two Americas squads, one Pacific, one EMEA. VCT China has no team resting yet, and all four of its squads are still alive in the hunt. The region opened 0-8 in the first round, four series lost without a single map won: the previous episode broke that gap down.
For Paper Rex, this looks like consistency rather than a hot run. A third Champions playoffs appearance is the line that separates a good event from a program.
NRG are doing what defending champions are supposed to do in a group stage: no drama, no elimination match, no extra maps burned. The opening round already pointed this way.
⚔️ The four spots still up for grabs
Every group sends two teams to the playoffs. One is locked in each group. The second comes from that group's decider on 3 and 4 October, and the elimination matches on 1 and 2 October decide who gets to play in them. Every remaining VALORANT Champions Shanghai playoff spot runs through one of those four deciders.
Qualified (4)
- Paper Rex (Group C)
- NRG (Group D)
- 100 Thieves (Group A)
- Team Vitality (Group B)
Still in the hunt (12)
- Group A: FUT Esports, T1, JD Gaming
- Group B: LOUD, Global Esports, EDward Gaming
- Group C: G2 Esports, TYLOO, Team Liquid
- Group D: Karmine Corp, Xi Lai Gaming, Nongshim RedForce
The elimination matches run first: TYLOO vs Team Liquid and Xi Lai Gaming vs Nongshim RedForce on 1 October, then Global Esports vs EDward Gaming and T1 vs JD Gaming on 2 October. Lose and you are out. Win, and you meet the team that lost that group's winners' match in the decider.
That decider is where the bracket gets decided. The winners'-match loser arrives with one life left and several days of preparation on the map pool. The elimination winner arrives with momentum and no margin. Same match, opposite pressures.

🗓️ The format, in one breath
Sixteen teams, four groups, with one representative from each region in every group. Every match is a Bo3, and two losses end your tournament. The VALORANT Champions Shanghai group stage runs 24 September to 4 October and sends eight teams through. The playoffs are double elimination, from 7 to 18 October.
G2 Esports, Karmine Corp, LOUD and FUT Esports each lost a winners' match and now sit one defeat from going home. That is the whole tension of the next four days 🎟️ One map decides who rests and who fights for their life in the decider.
Four teams are already safe, twelve are still alive, and eight will be packing before the playoffs even start. If you have followed VALORANT Champions Shanghai from day one, the next four days are the payoff. Pick'Ems are running for the event if you want your read of the bracket on record.
If you want a bracket to follow while you grind, the VALORANT ladder on Amber.gg runs on the same idea: Bo3 sets, climb or drop. New players get a $5 signup bonus, and you can see every ladder on the play page.
